Tartu City Marathon, part of the 30-year-old Club Tartu Marathon running events, was reinstated in 2012. On October 2, 1983, the first Tartu City Run was held, covering 19.2 km. In 1999, the race was moved to Elva and in 2000, it was renamed Tartu Jooksumaraton and moved to the spring. Tartu City Marathon has two main courses – 42 km and 21 km. Additionally, a 10 km Tartu City Run is open for runners and nordic walkers. Last year, a total of 3200 runners and nordic walkers took part in the Tartu City Marathon/City Run. This event is part of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and has quickly been growing in popularity.
