The Augusta Sports Council hosts a prominent endurance sports event, significant as a primary fundraiser for the G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship benefiting graduating high school athletes. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Council supports the Augusta area by attracting various sporting events to enhance local life and boost the economy. Established by volunteers, it has supported over 800 events, drawing 450,000+ athletes and yielding over $400 million economically for Augusta. The Council is also known for the Ray Guy Award, honoring excellence in college football punting, broadcast annually by ESPN.

Registration is open for the DENFIT Winter Soldier event, challenging participants to brave the elements along the icy St. Lawrence. Runners traverse a flat, fast course from Rec Park to Tibbetts Point Lighthouse. Participants will enjoy hot showers, refreshments, a roaring fire, music, and aid stations. Upon completion, each runner receives a medal and t-shirt, with additional rewards for completing the longest distance. Participation is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Adequate preparation for unpredictable weather conditions is essential, as the event proceeds regardless of weather. Parking is available with a request for a small non-profit donation.
