The Municipality of Agadir and the Sport For Dev association, in partnership with the National Agency for the Development of Oasian and Argan Zones (ANDZOA), are celebrating the International Day of the Argan Tree, proclaimed on May 10 by UNESCO. They are joining forces to organize the 4th edition of the “Agadir Half Marathon 2025,” named “THE ARGAN TREE RACE,” featuring three races: the Half Marathon, the 10 Km, and the KIDS RUN.This major event initially started as an educational 5 km race, known as the “School Race,” aimed at encouraging physical activity and sports participation. It was originally reserved for children from the region and brought together more than 2,500 athletes under the age of 18 in 2022, a remarkable success. For the second edition, the organizing committee decided to expand the event by introducing a 10 km race to attract running enthusiasts and showcase Agadir’s tourism potential. Once again, the event was a great success, with more than 4,500 participants, including children, adults, seniors, and people with disabilities. In 2024, the third edition of “The Argan Tree Race,” with the addition of the Half Marathon, achieved even greater success, bringing together over 4700 participants and further establishing itself as a major sporting event in the region. For this fourth edition, sustainability is integrated into the event by highlighting the Argan tree, which represents the richness of the local heritage. By celebrating the International Day of the Argan Tree, we emphasize a key economic sector, a driver of social inclusion, and an essential element of the Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve. The Argan Tree Race aims to promote Agadir as a destination for sports tourism, showcasing its cultural and social uniqueness.
